Opened 50 years ago as a farm dairy story to process milk and make ice cream, the Oley
Turnpike Dairy is now so much more. The zoo, which now includes over 80 sheep, goats,
llamas, alpacas, other animals and birds, was started in 1991 with just two baby calves. A
monkey house was added in 1993. The fall festival, which started in the mid-1990s with
hayrides and a small hand-built maze, now encompasses 20 acres. The Dairy added a country
diner in 2000, offering home-cooked fare, plus daily dinner specials, and breakfast and lunch
seven days a week. Ice cream offerings have grown to over 30 flavors served in the ice cream
